Sab Sun Kaen

Forearm Chop

The big brother of Faad Sun Kaen, Sab Sun Kaen (chopping forearm) works from a variety positions including the Tha Kru.  Like Faad Sun Kaen, it uses the forearm to strike the target, and following the same 45 degree angle can attack the same set of points (the temple, the eye socket, the jaw and the neck). Sab Sun Kaen can be a straight forward smash of the fore arm, or as in Faad Sun Kaen, the elbow can proceed the fist in this strike, which depending on your starting angle, may feel a little awkard. Where as Faad Sun Kaen starts on the opposite side of the body (e.g. Joob Sawg or Bat) Sab Sun Kaen starts from the same side of the body from movements such as Beurt.

Execution

Start in Tha Kru - left stance.
  1. Lift up your right arm 45 degree to your right and up so that your fist is slightly higher than the top of your head (like a rear hand Beurt).
  2. Start Phlik Liam to the left, allowing your right elbow to follow the movement (try and keep the hand still)
  3. With you elbow leading the movement, continue Phlik Liam and start chopping down at 45 degree with your forearm.
  4. Complete the Phlik Liam, and project the weight and power out through your forearm.
  5. Return to the Tha Kru.
Like in Faad Sun Kaen, dont straighten your arm fully, as you may pop your elbow. The power from this movement comes from the Phlik Liam, so work on a heavy bag until you can feel the power coming from the core of your body.
