Dop Hoo

Slapping Ears

The Dop Hoo drill can be used to practice your basic blocks and counters, Bat, Thad Maa Laa and Joob Sawg, so that you can hone your reactions and execute the techniques without thinking. Once you have this, then you can consider using follow up attacks and Look Mai moves in real situations. Execution Stand opposite your partner and decide who is striking and who is defending. The attacker checks the distance so that the hand will reach the defender's ear.
  1. Start with your hands by your sides.
  2. The attacker starts by swinging the arm up to the defender's ear - remember, start slow!
  3. The defender tries to defend using one of the defensive techniques. (at first don't worry too much about good form, just protect yourself!)
  4. The attacker the alternates the hand slapping from left to right, making sure the pace is good enough to test the defender, but not overwhelm them.
  5. If the attacker pauses, the defender should drop their hands to their sides.
  6. Have fun!
Some tips:
  • The defender should avoid from striking the attackers arms with elbows. Thad Maa Laa, keep the elbow straight. Joob Sawg, keep the elbow high. Bat with the palm of the hand.
  • If you hit the defender's ear, don't stop! It's good conditioning for presence of mind during a real fight!
  • The defender should remember to Phlik Liam, it's an important part of combining both defensive and offensive movements.
Freestyle variation If the defender is good enough, start mixing things up by through different combinations of left and right attacks. Left, left, right, left, right, right etc.
