Wiang Sawg
Circular Elbow
The last of the Bit techniques from the 4Bs, Wiang Sawg can work as a parry/counter, but is most effective as a clean strike - finishing an opponent off.
This elbow is commonly seen in modern Muay Thai, but generally you see a large wind up/back swing before the strike is thrown. This slow wind up makes the movement easy to spot and counter.
Muay Chaiya's Wiang Sawg keeps the movement short and crisp, giving little chance for a counter. Power is maintained by utilising the power from Phlik Liam, the shoulder, arm and elbow will naturally follow the correct path to the target.
The other important aspect of this move is the guarding arm which raises (similar to the Beurt technique) to protect the other side of your face.
Execution
Wiang Sawg from the back hand:- Start in the Tha Kru, right stance.
- Lift the left elbow up so that your arm/shoulder is close to your left ear. Pull the fist back towards the shoulder.
- Phlik Liam, letting your raised elbow strike in a downward motion.
- The right arm should rise slightly, guarding the other side of your face.
- Remain in the previous position (left elbow)
- Raise the right elbow so that your arm/shoulder is close to your right ear.
- At the same time, raise your left fist (on the inside of your right arm) pivoting at the elbow so that the arm ends up in the same position as Beurt.
- Phlik Liam, allowing yout right elbow to strike downwards.
- Repeat transitioning to the right elbow.
